Ironman Taiwan – English
I was really looking forward to this race as it has been a while since I competed in an Ironman.
The day started little stressful in the transition, where I wasn’t able to put in any air into my rear tubular tire and mechanics couldn’t or didn’t know how to help me. The valve seemed to be stuck with liquid inside the tires. So my rear tire had some air in only from 5 days ago when I arrived.
The swim was non-wetsuit for professionals. At the start I drifted little bit to the left what caused me loosing a good pack of girls. For around 15mins I swam on my own with the few girls on my feet. Then they took turns and I managed to swim in the small pack of 3 of us almost until the end. I swam 1hr01min, so far my PB in non-wetsuit race.
The bike course was one tough challenging route with total elevation gain around 2000m. The course was open for traffic both ways with lots of obstacles on the road like running dogs across the street, vehicles in opposite direction and cutting across! , lots of pot holes etc…etc..
I didn’t feel much powerful during the bike leg, somehow I was waiting for it and it never came.
Run, I just tried to run as strong as I was capable on the day in humid and sunny conditions on the hilly course.
Impression; first I was little disappointed as I thought I couldn’t race faster. However after some time thinking and discussing with my coach, I actually did get the best out of myself I could on the day. The perception of the effort was hard, how fast I went, was another factor which is more related to how long I have been training for this race and where I am coming from… (post serious injury and training properly since January)
Result, 7th Pro or overall female out of 12.
Time: 10:18:01 with splits: 1:01/5:31/3:38
I am looking forward to be gaining more and more fitness and hopefully seeing improved results during this season.
Thanks so much to my amazing sponsors and supporters without whom I wouldn’t be able to be on the start line:
Global Jet – thanks to whom I am able to train and race full time since January,
Colnago UK, sailfish, Vision, PowerBar, Hampton Pool, BBB and in my winter training base thanks to California Chiropractic Center for keeping me injury free and Wolfi’s Bike Shop for looking after my amazing Colnago bikes.
Congratulations – great to see you’re back 🙂
