As I have mentioned before, I had some difficult times in the build up to this race. I had an unfortunate bike crash, which as result was dislocated other shoulder and small knee injury.
So not really an ideal preparation, with 3 weeks of no running and swimming at all, just over a month away from the race.
No excuses, sometimes, preparation just doesn’t go as expected, but with all this bad luck, I am very happy and proud with my result, defending 5th place (from last year) at European Championships in Long Distance Triathlon and achieving new fastest Slovakian Female Time in Iron distance* ever by 20 mins. 9h 30min 09sec
*Iron distance – 3,8km Swimming – 180km Cycling – 42,2km Running
My swim went surprisingly not too bad , but as used to come out of the water between first 4 women, this time I was coming more less from the back of the pro women’s field. (with time 49mins 35sec)
I was playing a catch up game on the bike. My bike split was 5h 07min on distance of 180km, which gave me 35km/h average speed. I was feeling strong and powerful during whole time, I felt I could have gone much faster, but I was holding exact numbers (power and heart rate) I agreed with my coach before, to make sure I have still legs for solid marathon.
On the run, stomach cramps didn’t allow me to run as I would have liked to, my marathon time wasn’t my fastest, 3h 28min, which gave me avg. speed of 4min 56sec/km. I had cramps all the way and toilet needs. (Something I am going to look at in the next couple of weeks, I am going to have tests on my liquids and nutrition race absorption)
Race wasn’t smoothest one, plus I knew I was in 85 % shape of my best. So I can just truly say, I am very pleased that I raced again and came home with new female Slovakian record by 20mins. I feel, there is much more to come in the coming races!
I would like to thank to my dearest sponsor Global Jet and other supporters who have been standing by me in good or bad times and believing in me in all this time.
My next focus – Kona Ironman World Champs 2017.
